Case 7: Patient presented with a bulky crown on a tooth that had been treated with a root canal and post and core build up. It became loose and she was experiencing a bad taste in her mouth and knew something was wrong. The root was cracked, which was why it felt loose and the bad taste was due to the microscopic bacteria that was beginning to grow in that time space where the crack was. She never understood just WHY the dentist who made the crown made it so thick in the first place. It had always bothered her that one front tooth stuck out so much further than the other. We removed the tooth, placed an implant and made her a new crown. She was much happier with her smile and with the crown itself when she was done with treatment.
Pre-treatment, occlusal view showing extremely bulky old crown. You can’t see it so much in the photo from the front, but in this photo, you sure can! You can only imagine what that must’ve felt like!
Pre-treatment, smile view.
The root with the post and core that were removed.
Extraction site, ready for implant placement.
Same day implant placement
And same day immediate temporization
Healed implant ready for final crown.
X-ray of implant and final crown, day of placement
Final implant crown, close up view with lips retracted.
Final implant crown, close up occlusal view. A WHOLE lot better than the bulky one she started with! Needless to say, she was ecstatic with the results!
